Asha Bhosle will take culinary centre stage on the small screen this Ramadan as celebrity guest chef on Sony TV’s fifth season of the popular Flavours of Ramadan show, and Asha’s Global Restaurant chain will be offering a handful of foodie fans a one-of-a-kind opportunity to win a master class cooking session with Asha herself in an exciting free-to-enter online competition.

Viewed by more than three million people across the GCC and Middle East-North Africa, Asha will be joined by a line-up of top resident group chefs including Ashwani Rangta, Gaurav Mathur and Navin Chauhan, along with Brandon Grusd, the acclaimed international mixologist behind the restaurants’ innovative new mocktail menu. The 15-episode show will feature signature dishes from the restaurant along with a menu of Asha’s own personal family and travel favourites, each of which is adapted for viewers to easily recreate at home for iftar.
Spices singing in harmony
The story of Asha’s is a tale of passion and culinary innovation; where music and food come together in perfect harmony. Every dish has a personal story, including her famous Aloo served Two Ways, which she will prepare live on air.
“Many years ago I visited a wonderful friend of mine Kishore Kumar at his quirky home studio, where I arrived to find him perched on a stool eating Benares potatoes with puri. When I enquired as to his interest in such a simple homemade dish he claimed, in his rather eccentric way, that being a vegetarian enhanced his singing. Hence I dedicated my favourite vegetarian potato dish to my longtime and revered friend,” she says.
Another personal favourite is Fish Ka Bhaji. Says Asha: “This dish is a tradition from the Koli (fisher folk) Pathare community in Mumbai, who were the city’s original settlers. Dedicated to my dearest friend, Preethi, who is a direct descendant of the community, this fish dish is symbolic of Mumbai.”
