Bollywood royalty Asha Bhosle joins Corrie stars at the launch of her restaurant Asha’s

Bollywood royalty Asha Bhosle joined Corrie stars Shobna Gulati and Jimmi Harkishin at the launch of her Indian restaurant Asha’s.

The singing sensation, 82, who is the most recorded artist in music history, flew in from her home in Mumbai for the £2m Peter Street eatery’s lavish launch party last night.

Welcoming guests, who also included My Big Fat Asian Wedding star Raj Somaiya and BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Phil Williams, she told the crowd “my house is your house”, before presenting the chef with a spice box containing a secret mix made by her master grinder in Mumbai.

Guests feasted on canapes including tandoori king prawns, seafood seekh kebabs and aloo mattar ki tikki (spiced potato and pea patties), washed down with cocktails created by Manchester mixology maestro Jamie Jones.

In an interview earlier in the day, Asha told the MEN: “I want to give people a taste of home, a taste of India and of course I want to cater to the diverse community of this city, from Bangladeshi, Pakistani, India to the indigenous community.

“We will be serving authentic food, the kind of dishes that I cook at home and what can be found on the streets of India.”
